Art Work

The focus of Art at Diss Primary Academy is to engage, inspire and challenge our children and equip them with sufficient knowledge and skills to create and invent their own works of art, craft and design.

To support the teaching of this we use a cyclical curriculum where children are taught skills and knowledge in the following areas: Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, Collage, Textiles and 3D. The skills and knowledge taught in each Year Group from Year 1 to 6 are built on each year and children are taught a range of vocabulary linked to each of the areas, building on the vocabulary which has already been introduced the previous year.

Children are taught through a range of media and experience a variety of tools, equipment and objects in each of the six areas. Children respond to a range of stimuli such as music, stories and the work of Artists such as Anthony Frost, Kandinsky, Hunderwasser and Henry Moore.

Children in Nursery and Reception learn to develop skills such as mark making, using scissors to cut, joining materials together using a range of materials and having opportunities to follow their own interests when creating imaginative and expressive art works. Our children learn to make informed choices and show independence when selecting from a range of mark making tools or choosing which thickness of brush to use.
